The Environmental Economics Policy Research Unit (EPRU) is a collaborative association of academic researchers specialising in environmental and natural resource issues. Members of EPRU include six senior researchers and fourteen j unior researchers (mostly PhD students) based in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. The unit is the South African centre of an international network, the Environment for Development initiative (EfD) and receives its core funding from the Swedish
Internationa l Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) as well as research funding from a variety of sources. It was established in 2007 to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction in Southern Africa through policy relevant research. EPRU strives to become a centre of excellence in environmental and resource economics in Southern Africa from which decision-makers will seek well-researched advice.

EPRU seeks to employ a fixed-term, full-time Administrative Assistant for 3 years, to start as soon as possible, ending December 2024. The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative support for all areas of travel for the Environment for Development and general/financial administration requiring thorough and accurate record-keeping for reporting purposes.

Requirements for the job:
NQF 4 Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in flight bookings for international travel

Solid administration skills
Meticulous work with attention to detail
The ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills (MS Office), including intermediate proficiency in Excel
Effective time-management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task within a pressurised environment The capability to meet strict deadlines


A tertiary Degree/Diploma or equivalent
A solid understanding of the University’s systems and procedures.

Areas of responsibility include:
Travel administration, co-ordination and record keeping Events planning and co-ordination
Administrative support
Assisting with annual audits of the travel budget
Maintaining an efficient and effective filing and record keeping system Communicating with travel service providers and the relevant parties at the EfD


The annual cost of employment, including benefits is between R337,873 and R397,499
