Rotational General Workers X27 – Wits University
Purpose:
Performs general cleaning and related services/functions pertaining to all University buildings, residences and surrounding infrastructure, as specified in the work schedules, under direct supervision. To ensure that set tasks are completed daily and that the work stations and area of work is left ready for the following day by the end of business each day. Maintaining a healthy, hygienic and professional environment
Key responsibilities include the following:
Provide cleaning services by:
· Performing day to day cleaning duties which may involve the use of chemicals, hand-held tools, machinery and equipment which often require some physical effort
Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
· Cleaning of all University buildings, residences and infrastructure internally or externally as directed by the supervisor
· Reporting repairs and maintenance issues
· Venue setups and clean-ups for functions e.g. chairs and desks for exams
· Specialized cleaning and adhoc services
· Boardroom and meeting venue setups and clean-ups including dishwashing
· Unloading and distribution of consumables and cleaning materials
· Ensure that housekeeping and stacking in the storerooms are done in accordance with legislation
· Operating larger cleaning equipment and machinery
· Perform specific specialized tasks of responsibility i.e. moving of furniture, washing of carpets, stripping and sealing, floods, etc.
· Cleaning of passages, sweeping and removal of debris from internal roads and public areas.
· Required to work overtime/additional time which may include weekends and/or public holidays
· One may be re-allocated to other areas within the University as per operational requirements
· Assignments, work scheduling, methodology and instructions to only come from Services Department management, Service Provider management and cleaning services line managers unless deemed otherwise and with approval from Services’ management
· Sinks and hand basins are cleaned in accordance with the correct procedures, and are free flowing
· All areas such as floors, walls, drains, gullies, traps, shelving, cupboards and drawers are cleaned using the correct procedure
· Cleaning equipment and materials are stored correctly
· Correct uniform is worn and uniform is clean and undamaged
Requirements:
• Grade 12
• Services SETA Qualification
• Good Communication skills (language and written)
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors)
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Good finical and fitness
• Alertness’ and visual attention skills
