Garden Route District Municipality, in support of the Just Energy Transition and through the Garden Route Skills Mecca Programme, invites unemployed youth currently residing within the Garden Route District municipal area to apply for an opportunity to become a Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant. The six-month Internship will be preceded by a two-month full-time training programme that will cover two following Skills Programmes registered with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO):
• Skills Programme SP-211009, Workplace Essential Skills, NQF Level 4, Credits 20, Training Days = 25, Minimum Entry Requirement = NQF level 1 (Grade 9)
• Skills Programme SP-210602, Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant, NQF level 4, Credits 24, Training Days = 30, Minimum Entry Requirement = NQF Level 1 (Grade 9)

The Renewable Energy Workshop Technicians will be trained at a QCTO-accredited provider within the Garden Route in George.
Post the training, the successful learners will be placed with engineering-related small businesses across the Garden Route with preference given to Solar Installation companies that qualify to take on the interns.
All learners will receive a stipend during the two month training period and the six-month intern placement period that must be used by the learners to cover their own transport and accommodation as no additional funding will be contemplated for such needs.
Requirements:
• Certifed copy (within the last three months) of a minimum NQF Level 1 Qualification.
o This can be a Grade 9 Certificate or Occupational equivalent with preference being given to Learners that have successfully passed at least one Engineering-related subject.
• Certified proof (within last three months) of a Permanent Residential Address within a Municipal area in the Garden Route
• Certified proof (within the last three months) of a South African ID Document.
• Personal, signed Letter of Commitment to:
o Work with a relevant Garden Route Skill Mecca Technician to source placement opportunities;
o Make arrangements to attend the two months of training; and
o Make arrangements to attend the six months internship.
Duties:
A Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant plans, prepares and assists service technicians with installation, maintenance and component assembly for Renewable Energy processes, systems, facilities and equipment.
A qualified learner will be able to:
Identify, select, use, care for hand, power and measuring tools and testing instruments used by Renewable Energy Service Technicians, Installers and Mounters, within renewable energy installation and maintenance environments. They will also know and apply the health, safety and environmental requirements in an engineering environment.
