<p><strong>Shunter/ Train Driver Assistant</strong></p>
<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications / Experience</strong></p>
<p><strong>Grade 12 certificate</strong></p>
<p><strong>Good hand-eye-foot coordination, fine motor control and medical fitness</strong></p>
<p><strong>Effective communication skills</strong></p>
<p><strong>Shunter’s Certificate, code 10 drivers and locomotive licence will be an advantage</strong></p>
<p><strong>Experience in working in remote mining sites and in a cross-cultural working environment</strong></p>
<p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):</strong></p>
<p><strong>Checks visually for any defects on the loco</strong></p>
<p><strong>Visually inspect railway lines for any defects or damages</strong></p>
<p> ;</p>
<p><strong>Couples and de-couples trucks as required by connecting or disconnecting truck couplings and backing pipes</strong></p>
<p><strong>Changes points to direct train trucks on the required lines by throwing over the point switches</strong></p>
<p><strong>Locks points after shunting is completed and while loading and off-loading takes place</strong></p>
<p><strong>Signals the loco driver to move trucks while loading, by making use of a two-way radio, hand signals and operating the robot in the loading tunnel</strong></p>
<p> ;</p>
<p><strong>Checks that truck doors are secure by doing a visual inspection that safety pins are secure before and after the shift</strong></p>
<p><strong>Assists the loco driver when the train is moving by doing a visual inspection of the trucks to ensure that all are functioning correctly and that doors are closed, and level crossing signals are working properly</strong></p>
<p><strong>Checks that the loading tunnel is safe by doing a visual inspection for spillages in the tunnel</strong></p>
<p><strong>Starts the loading plant pumps on the two operating panels</strong></p>
<p> ;</p>
<p><strong>Checks that trucks are correctly positioned underneath the chutes by doing a visual inspection and signalling the driver to move trucks either forward or backwards</strong></p>
<p><strong>Loads each train truck by operating the loading plant from the control panels</strong></p>
<p><strong>Checks that trucks are not overloaded by doing a visual inspection for spillage from trucks</strong></p>
<p><strong>Ensures that switchgear is correctly positioned and locked before off-loading commences</strong></p>
<p><strong>Assists tip personnel with off-loading by checking that doors are correctly opened and closed</strong></p>
<p><strong>Checks that doors are securely locked, and safety pins are in place by doing a visual inspection</strong></p>
<p><strong>Checks that no obstructions are present by doing a visual inspection</strong></p>
<p><strong>Reports defects in the loading tunnel to the supervisor</strong></p>
<p><strong>Cleans the locomotive by means of sweeping or mopping floor as well as wiping windows</strong></p>
