<p><strong>Bidvest Tank Terminals has seven opportunities for Safety Watchers. These opportunities exist within the SHEP department based in Durban and they will be reporting to the Safety Watch Charge Hand.</strong></p>
<p><strong>The successful candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Minimum Requirements</strong></p>
<p><strong>Matric</strong></p>
<p><strong>2 years&#8217; experience in a similar role</strong></p>
<p><strong>2 years’ experience in a Chemical storage/manufacturing plant</strong></p>
<p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p><strong>Monitor all activities related to confined space work as per relevant legislation</strong></p>
<p><strong>Adhere to the proper entry procedures where confined spaces and their hazards are identified</strong></p>
<p><strong>Monitor the effectiveness of the controls applied to maintain a safe system of work</strong></p>
<p><strong>Inspect the entire work area for the potential release of flammable vapors or liquids</strong></p>
<p><strong>Ensure that all hazardous work is identified and covered by supporting documents</strong></p>
<p><strong>Identify any conflicts between the proposed work and other activities in the area</strong></p>
<p> ;</p>
<p><strong>Respond to unsafe, hazardous or emergency situations</strong></p>
<p><strong>Conduct gas testing activities, hazard identification, and risk assessments</strong></p>
<p><strong>Recognize changes in process conditions and stop operations if hazards are identified</strong></p>
<p><strong>Maintain the conditions and requirements stated on the permit to work</strong></p>
<p><strong>Maintain constant visual and voice contact with other employees</strong></p>
<p><strong>Operate fire extinguishers, hydrants, fixed monitors, and hose carts</strong></p>
<p><strong>Keep flammable materials away from ignition sources</strong></p>
<p><strong>Extinguish fires immediately and raise the alarm</strong></p>
<p><strong>Take appropriate action to mitigate the risks associated with hazardous work</strong></p>
<p><strong>Ensure the work area is free of hot sparks, burning embers and other fire hazards when operation is done</strong></p>
<p><strong>Ensure that emergency equipment is returned to the correct place after use</strong></p>
<p><strong>Apply first aid techniques where applicable</strong></p>
<p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Effective communication and leadership skills</strong></p>
<p><strong>Ability to deal with differences/conflict</strong></p>
<p><strong>Knowledge of relevant legislation</strong></p>
<p><strong>Knowledge and application of firefighting practices, methods and procedures</strong></p>
<p><strong>Knowledge of the storage, handling and the usage of hazardous materials fire prevention practices</strong></p>
<p><strong>High level of professionalism</strong></p>
