<p>The South African Police Service (SAPS) invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for Security Officer positions within the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) at Head Office and various provincial offices. These posts are offered at salary level 03, with a remuneration package of R163 680 per annum. The appointments fall under the Component: Executive Support Services, Office of the Section Head: Risk and Integrity Management, and are aimed at strengthening access control, asset protection, and overall security operations at identified SAPS facilities across multiple provinces.<br />
Successful candidates will be responsible for executing access control in accordance with relevant legislation, conducting identification and registration of employees and visitors, patrolling premises, monitoring security equipment, and reporting security-related incidents or deficiencies to senior officials. Applicants must be South African citizens with no criminal record, be proficient in at least two official languages (one of which must be English), and meet the prescribed minimum requirements, including PSIRA registration and a Grade C security certificate or higher. <p>REQUIREMENTS<br />
Applicants must display competency in the post-specific functions of the post.<br />
Applicants must be proficient in at least two (2) official languages, of which one must be English.<br />
Applicants must be South African citizens.<br />
Applicants must have no previous convictions or cases pending against them.<br />
Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification.</p>
<p>Applicants must have successfully completed Grade 10 (Standard 8) / Basic Education and Training (NQF Level 3), for which documentary proof must be produced when required.<br />
Applicants must have a valid certificate of registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).<br />
Applicants must be in possession of at least a Grade C Security Certificate or higher.<br />
Applicants must not be declared unfit to possess a firearm.<br />
Applicants must be willing to undergo firearm competency training and maintain firearm competency training.<br />
Applicants must be willing to work shifts and extended hours.<br />
A Degree or Diploma in the field of security services, relevant courses in the field of the post, and a valid driver’s licence for at least a light motor vehicle will serve as an advantage.<br />
DUTIES<br />
Execute access control in terms of the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985).<br />
Ensure positive identification of employees, visitors and maintenance personnel before entry into the premises.<br />
Register employees, visitors and maintenance personnel and conduct electronic searches.<br />
Issue admission control cards to visitors and ensure their return.<br />
Maintain the required visitors’ registers<br />
Authorise entry into the premises after complying with all legislative requirements, confirm visits with hosts and ensure escorting in line with prescribed procedures.<br />
Check suppliers, articles and objects before they are brought onto the premises to ensure safety is not compromised.<br />
Control admission of vehicles and equipment in the field.<br />
Guard vehicles and equipment in the field.<br />
Supervise cleaners and maintenance personnel strictly from a security perspective.<br />
Inspect security equipment and facilities and take corrective action where necessary.<br />
Patrol buildings and fenced-off areas.<br />
Assist security officers in the execution of their duties.<br />
Report all security deficiencies or concerns to senior security personnel<br />

Candidates shortlisted for appointment to certain identified posts will be vetted in accordance with the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No. 32 of 2007), and the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No. 38 of 2005), and any candidate whose particulars appear in the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register will be disqualified from appointment.<br />
Applicants are expected to disclose whether he or she is a respondent in an interim or final protection order in terms of the Domestic Violence Act, 1998 (Act No. 116 of 1998), or the Protection from Harassment Act, 2011 (Act No. 17 of 2011), and may be disqualified accordingly. In line with the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, 2013 (Act No. 37 of 2013), all new appointments in the South African Police Service from 31 January 2015 are required to provide a buccal (inside cheek) sample for the determination of a forensic DNA profile, which will be loaded onto the Elimination Index of the National Forensic DNA Database.<br />
Candidates may be required to undergo a personal interview and practical assessment where applicable, with appointments made in terms of the Public Service Act, 1994 (Act No. 103 of 1994). Persons who retired from the Public Service through severance packages, early retirement, or medical retirement, as well as persons with previous convictions, are excluded.
