TEACHING ASSISTANTS NEEDED

 

To apply, you need to meet the following inherent  requirements:

be in the final year of your undergraduate study

OR a postgrad student in 2024:

be enrolled as a UFS student and be able to provide proof of registration in 2024;

have at least 1 year of tutoring, facilitating, or teaching experience as part of a certified programme.(Tutoring students in your personal capacity in your free time is unfortunately not seen as certified tutorial experience): and

be proficient in English.

 

To apply, you need the following competencies:

 

excellent communication skills;

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint), navigating

the internet and Blackboard for facilitating classes;

time management skills;

excellent writing skills in English;

ability to work, independently, as well as in a team;

ability to work respectfully with individuals of all Cultures and backgrounds, perspectives and abilities: and

experience in conducting online and face-to-face classes.

 

If your application is successful, you will need to avail 25 hours per week (5 hours per day) for this position. You will thus have to find a balance between your studies and work duties/responsibilities as required within this position. Also note that this is not a remote working position, thus you will be required to report to campus for work engagements.

Please note that foreign national students may not work more than 20 hours per week, in accordance with national labour law. The Teaching Assistant appointment on the Bloemfontein campus is a fixed 25 hours per week contract.

 

Your duties/responsibilities are as follows:

  • Facilitating online and face-to-face Classes
  • Marking online assessments (Blackboard)
  • Reviewing module content
  • Attending Teaching Assistant training
  • Attending UFSS1504/1522 webinars
  • Attending UFSS1504/1522 face-to-face learning experiences.
