Three (3) available positions
The Office of Student Success (OSS) at the University of Witwatersrand is a multi- disciplinary team who provide professional supportive services in a welcoming and safe space to Faculty of Health Science students. The team endeavour to facilitate, contribute to and enhance the well-being and self -empowerment of students. The team works across disciplines in an integrated way to offer a holistic service to students. The Unit provides a high standard of services based on an ethos of student-centeredness, inclusivity, and human rights.
Brief Description
Intern Psychologists are appointed at the OSS based on the guidelines and the principles of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (1997). Psychology Masters students, who have completed their theoretical year at any accredited South African University, are eligible to complete an internship at the OSS. The internship programme is therefore also designed according to the legislation, policies and regulations, as required by the Professional Board for Psychology of the HPCSA.

All Intern Psychologists’ duties are carried out under the Supervision of registered psychologists in the OSS, in the relevant registration category. Intern psychologists receive continuous multi-disciplinary training throughout the year, relevant to their job description and OSS functions. The OSS partners with stakeholders to provide rotational sites to meet the internship requirements for registration as a counselling or educational psychologist with the HPCSA. The OSS offers holistic training throughout the internship year, and comprehensive supervision is provided by an experienced group of supervisors.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Provide psychotherapy and counselling (individual and groups) to a diverse population concerning personal, social, and emotional development (children, adolescents, university students and staff).
· Crisis management and trauma debriefing.
· Identify, diagnose, and treat psychological problems and refer to other professionals when needed.
· Conduct psychometric assessments: Career counselling, Scholastic assessments, School readiness assessments, and/or administer Screening tools.
0 · Design and present developmental workshops and psychoeducational programmes.
· Community outreach and consulting with a multi-disciplinary team.

· Ability to use psychological models and practices to enhance the emotional skills of the students within a school setting.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, colleagues, and parents.
· Strong ethical principles.
· Ongoing professional development through arranged training.
· Effective time management and administrative skills.
· A positive attitude and approach to change and development, with a growth mindset.
Minimum Requirements
· BA (Hons) Psychology
· Proof of registration to for a structured master’s programme in Counselling or Educational Psychology.
· Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a student psychologist.
